Thanks to the effort of member Tim Duffin, Northumberland County paramedics have donated a Automatic External Defibrillator to PYC. Please see the following news release for the entire story. The AED will be kept in the club house and Tim has agreed to provide training on its use to members.
 Gisele Philp, Primary Care Paramedic, Northumberland Paramedics Presents AED to member Tim Duffin and Commodore Tom Willison, Paramedics donate life-saving technology to two local organizations Cobourg, ON – May 26, 2014 – Heart health was at the heart of the matter, when Northumberland Paramedics today presented Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to representatives of Ganaraska Trail Public School and Presqu’ile Yacht Club. AEDs enable bystanders to provide life-saving assistance to people experiencing sudden heart problems, until paramedics arrive on-scene. “AEDs save lives,” stated Bill Detlor, Deputy Chief of Quality Assurance and Education for Northumberland Paramedics. “We are very pleased to be equipping these two organizations with such important technology, though we hope they will never have occasion to use it.” After working with the recipients throughout 2013, Northumberland Paramedics identified their need for AEDs. As a volunteer initiative, Paramedics participated in ZOLL Medical Corporation’s EMS/PAD Challenge during the 2013 Becel Heart and Stroke Ride for Heart. ZOLL Medical donates $1000 to each community team that participates in this challenge. With this donation and other funds raised, Northumberland Paramedics were able to provide each of today’s recipients with an AED. “This is an important contribution to the health and safety of the community,” said Adam Dawson, Director of Canadian Operations, ZOLL Medical Corporation. “We applaud Northumberland Paramedics for taking the initiative to organize this donation.
