The 2018 Wednesday Night Race Series’ initial race was held on June 20. As you can see from the pictures it was beautiful evening to be out on the bay and the wind was perfect for racing. The following brief summary was offered up by race coordinator Scott Hunter who is filling in for Robert C.:
“Our most recent outing was Wednesday night with moderate west winds powering 11 racers through our first series race. There is potential for another 3 boats to join the competition as the series progresses.
Congratulations and greetings to new entrants Jackal 3 (Dave McCracken) with a 7th place showing, Koma (Tom Nelson) 11th, and returning after a year on the hard, Wind Shadow (Gary Klassen) placing 9th. It was also great to see Skoro II (Lee Campbell) back on the water after his recent mast surgery coming home in 10th.
Top finishers were Cleo (Scott Hunter) in first, Moonlight (Bob Hallworth) in second, and Risky Business (Fred Wardle) taking third.
Special thanks to Tom Willison for his run down on a proper rabbit start. All Wednesday races will be done this way.”
The Wednesday night series is held almost every Wednesday during the summer. Dates and times are given on the club webpage calendar. This series is white sail only and it is geared to teach members about sail boat racing. if you have thought about racing, as skipper or crew, thiw is your chance to get started. Starts are a rabbit start format and racers record there own finish times. To familiarize racers with the racing rules of sailing, any issues that arise on the race course are discussed on the deck after the race.
After each race, BBQed hamburgers with all the fixings can be purchased, Thanks to Rob A and Al B. for organized this and they along with their team did an outstanding job cooking them. This was the perfect ending to the first Wednesday night race of 2018
