Update from Commodore

This is my last day serving as Commodore of PYC so I will take this opportunity to officially do the hand off to Rob Arbuckle. I thank him for stepping forward and volunteering to lead us through an important time for our Club.

A brief update on the status of the dredging. Just today we received the quote from the Town of Cobourg. It is for the amount of $58, 247.20 and includes the construction of the containmnet ponds this Fall and the dredging as soon as the ice goes out next year. I expect that we will sign off on the contract in the next day or so. That will kick things into action. You will see considerable activity at our Club during the next month or so. The contractor doing the excavation for the containment pond will bring their equipment in and construct the earthworks. The same contractor will also fill in the ditches beside the roadways on the north and south side this Fall. As well, the Town of Cobourg will be bringing in pipe and equipment in preparation for the dredging early next year. The only other outstanding issue related to the dredging is the sourcing of a seine net to exclude fish from the harbour as required by the permit from the government. We owe our thanks to Rob Currie, Gareth Goodchild, John Crowe Sr., Al Duffin, Tom Nelson and the Harbour Committee for getting us to this point. We are at the stage where at last we will see the physical work begin.

Finally, I am grateful for the support, guidance and efforts that I received from our Board, Executive and membership during the past two years and I know Rob can rely on all of us to give him our full support.
