On July 31 7 boats left PYC bound for Waupoos and the 20th running of the Shirley Homer Race. After a long voyage with little wind around the outside of the county, the boats anchored in South Bay just off Prince Edward Bay. It is a nice spot to anchor however the water was very cold. A calm night and relaxing morning allowed everyone to rest up for the big race.

On Friday, the fleet sailed over to Waupoos Marina to join boats from CFB Trenton for pre-race festivities and BBQ. CFB tried their best to sabotage the PYC group but with little success.
With 31 entries into the race we entered two highly skilled Tartans into the mix and a very enthusiastic equally skilled CS 30. All 7 PYC boats contributed crew along with several members who drove down to help out. With light winds (yuk) and high hopes, patience, heat, and determination, Tomfoolery placed 3rd, Breakaway placed 6th, and our shining stars on the CS 30 Serenity placed 11th. After the race, at the docks, Elie and Pierrette hosted a cocktail gathering which included wonderful hor d’oeuvres and a special drink blend of – we are not sure what it was because somehow it took a dive into the harbour never to be found again, container and all! For the awards dinner we all gathered on one long table and proudly displayed our PYC banner for all to see. With food, laughter, dancing to live music, the spirit from the PYC group was contagious. This weekend was very FUN! Thank you Mr. Cruising Director (thats Logan for those that do not know this).
The management of Waupoos Marina did make an announcement that this was the last Shirley Homer Memorial Race Weekend. Sad to hear this but they also said “Stay tuned for perhaps another format – different weekend for 2015.”
