Around The County Cruise 2014

While several boats left on Thursday,  the majority of the 11 boats that participated in the cruise left on Friday September 5.  the boats that left Thursday spent a nice night on Main Duck Island and met the fleet on Friday at Waupoos Marina.  The boats leaving on Friday had a great day of sailing with fair winds and nice weather.  In fact it was sailing all the way, no tacking and only one jibe.  At Waupoose, Bob H showed the whole marina the proper way to fall off the boat and into the water while docking.  The entire fleet had  nice cocktails and a BBQ which was finished just before the rain came.

The next day the fleet motored to the Upper Gap where we were greeted with 15 to 20 knot winds on the nose.  The traditional race to the ferry took place with Bob H out pacing the fleet.  All the work tacking to the ferry was replace with a nice broad reach up the Long Reach to our anchorage at Grassy Point.  Nine boats rafted together for dinner, drinks,  pictures. One brave sole even went for a swim.   A good time was being had by all until it was discovered that the raft had drifted into the middle of Long Reach.

On Sunday several boats took off for Napanee while the remainder of the fleet headed home.  Wind was  non existent so motoring was in order.  Good thing since most of the single handers needed to recover from the 20 knot winds the day before.

All in all it was a great cruise with two fine days of sailing and good company at the anchorage. What a way to finish off the season.
